Our Facilities

We have dedicated indoor and outdoor venues for varied all year shooting. We also run an optional interclub competition every season which covers a wide selection of the most recognised season rounds and is specially tailored so that everyone has equal footing.

Our shooting Seasons

Our club works on a seasonal shooting schedule consisting of an indoor and an outdoor season, this is to accommodate multiple rounds, a variety of distances and the best of the weather. Each season accounts for roughly half of the year, with a months transitional period at each season end where the club shoots in a hybrid style of both our indoor and outdoor venues across our 2 weekly sessions.

During each season we run a friendly interclub competition that is completely optional and open to all members regardless of experience. These competitions are balanced using a tailored handicap system so that everyone is on equal footing and there are no unfair advantages between experience levels. These competitions are run in the form of Club Target Days, with each one being a different recognised round for the corresponding season. Because there are less rounds then there are shooting sessions, the club target day rounds repeat from around half way through the season allowing you to see the progress you have made as an archer.

Indoor Venue - Whittlesey Indoor Bowls Club

For our indoor season, we shoot at Whittlesey Indoor Bowls Club. This has a 20m hall which allows us to shoot most of the standard indoor archery rounds as well as provide coaching sessions at 10 & 15 yards. There is ample parking at the front of the building as well as an additional car park round to the side of the building as well that is normally open for parking in. As part of our hire of the venue we are also granted use of an adjoining kitchen where members frequent to chat away from the shooting line and stock up on hot drinks & some communally provided club nibbles.

Wednesdays: 19:00 - 21:00
Saturdays: 11:00 - 13:00 & 13:30 - 15:30

Our indoor season normally starts in the first week of October, where we transition to our Wednesday shooting sessions being indoors and our Saturday sessions being outdoors; From November onwards, shooting is entirely indoors.

Outdoor Venue - Ramsey Heights Community Park

For our outdoor season, we shoot at Ramsey Heights Community Park. This venue allows us to shoot up to a distance of 100m, depending on member preference, and is demarcated with both metric and imperial distance markers which means we can shoot all outdoor archery rounds 100m and below. Unfortunately because this venue is a community park we are missing the amenities such as running water & electricity so have limited capability for refreshments. We do have a separate chemical toilet area inside of our container so we are not without toilet facilities.

Because the park is a shared communal space, we prohibit the use of full carbon & fibreglass arrows for the safety of the general public. Aluminium-carbon ("Ally carbons") mixed arrows are acceptable to use and, If you happen to loose an arrow, notify the committee as we have metal detectors to assist in locating it and will contact the park committee so it can be returned if found by the public.
